Risk disclosure
We would rather you transact with clear expectations. This page sets out, plainly, what SwapXchange is and is not, and the practical risks involved in a PayPal USD to ZAR exchange.
Our regulatory status
SwapXchange is a private currency-exchange service. We are not regulated, licensed, authorised or supervised by any financial regulator, we are not a bank, and we hold no financial services provider licence. Funds you send are not insured or guaranteed by any deposit-protection or compensation scheme.
We are also not affiliated with, partnered with or endorsed by PayPal or any South African bank. Bank names appear on this site only to describe where we can pay out.
Transactions are processed manually
- A member of our team verifies each payment and releases each payout by hand. There is no automated settlement.
- Exchanges submitted outside operating hours are queued for the next session.
- Verification of a first-time bank account happens before payout, so a first exchange takes longer.
Processing times can vary
Typical payouts are completed quickly, but the times shown anywhere on this site are estimates based on past experience, not commitments. Team availability, verification checks, high volume, banking downtime and public holidays can all extend them.
Exchange rates can change
- Our rate is set manually and can change at any time, including after you have viewed it.
- The rate shown when you submit an exchange is the rate we intend to honour for approximately 25 minutes. Beyond that period, or if the market moves sharply before your funds arrive, we do not guarantee the quoted rate and will contact you before continuing.
- We do not guarantee any rate for a future date and we do not offer forward or locked pricing unless we state so explicitly in writing for a specific transaction.
Payment-provider risk
- PayPal payments can be delayed, held for review, limited, reversed, disputed or rejected by PayPal — before or after we pay you.
- Payments sent as Goods & Services, or through any method that allows a dispute or chargeback, cannot be exchanged and will be refunded rather than processed.
- PayPal may deduct its own fees, and we can only exchange the amount that actually clears into our account.
- If PayPal reverses a payment after we have paid out, we will contact you to recover the funds.
Bank processing risk
- Once we release an EFT, the timing of the credit to your account is controlled by the banks, not by us.
- Inter-bank transfers, batch cut-off times, weekends and public holidays can delay funds.
- Incorrect account details you supply can cause a failed or misdirected payment, which takes time to trace and recover.
Verify details before you send funds
- Always confirm the PayPal recipient shown on the exchange page inside your account immediately before sending. Do not rely on details sent to you by message, screenshot or third party.
- We will never ask you to send funds to a different recipient by WhatsApp, email or social media, and we will never ask for your PayPal password, banking login or OTP.
- Check that the name on your PayPal account and your bank account matches your registered name — mismatches cause refunds and delays.
- If anything looks inconsistent, stop and contact support before sending.
No profit or investment guarantee
SwapXchange is an exchange service, not an investment product. We do not offer trading, returns, yield or profit of any kind, and nothing on this site should be read as a promise of financial gain. Currency values move, and the Rand value of a given USD amount changes over time.
Transact within your comfort level
Because we are a young, unregulated, manually operated service, we suggest starting with a small amount, keeping your own records of every payment, and only exchanging amounts you are comfortable sending. Our published limits exist partly for this reason.
